The Artist's Biog
Téa, from Sarajevo – Bosnia, is a singer, guitarist and songwriter, as well as a committed educator. She trained in classical guitar and opera, and has been performing with her sister Mirela since the early 1980s. Since coming to the UK in 1989 she has continued to perform with Mirela, and has appeared alongside artists such as Youssou N’Dour and Martin Carthy. She is a member of The Hodzic Trio, and Balkan group Szapora (previously the Budapest Café Orchestra).
History of Workshop
Singing has long been a means of conveying stories of historical events, social issues, and heart felt emotion. Téa’s workshops reflect this, with songs of love, loss, war, and celebration.
Content
Workshops will teach participants the unique style of voice- rhythms distinctive of the Balkans. Starting with a gentle vocal warm up and explanation of cultural context, participants will be led on a musical journey of the emotions.
