Notes from Underground

An innovative collaboration between
Stour Valley Arts and Music for Change

Environmental artist Martin Brockman and musician Lucky Moyo worked with a group of young people living in Kent throughout April and May 2007 in the ancient Kings Wood Challock Kent.
Inspired by ‘Score for a Hole in the Ground’, a sound sculpture created by Jem Finer in 2006 in the Wood, the group took part in workshops experimenting with construction and creating sound using materials found in the Wood. They conceived and built instruments and sound structures using traditional carpentry tools and joinery techniques.
They devised a unique performance using percussion, voice and dance, which received its public debut on 31st May 2007. The audience were then given a chance to try out the instruments and making sound in the forest, supported by the participants.
