Biography
Dessislava Stefanova has been performing and teaching the distinctive choral music of Bulgaria in the UK since her arrival here in 2000. An experienced conductor, soloist and ensemble singer, Dessislava has also established a career singing for film soundtracks and theatre, and has collaborated with groups such as Balkan Beat Box and British Sea Power.
Sessions with Dessislava explore the landscapes of the voice and the creative traditions of Bulgaria through appropriate material learnt by ear. Full of unusual intervals and irregular rhythms which are incredibly catchy, fiery and wonderful to play with, the repertoire taught creates colourful harmonies, and there is no need to read music!
